In Bengaluru, BBMP officials have reported a significant decrease in sewage flow into the Koramangala stormwater drain, which has reduced from 120 million litres per day (MLD) to around 8 MLD after the implementation of the K-100 Urban Waterway Project. Despite this claim, local residents and businesses along the drain have noted that the foul odor and presence of sewage in the water remain unchanged. The K-100 project, funded with Rs 175 crore by the government, aims to revamp the drain infrastructure along a 9.2-km stretch from KR Market to Bellandur Lake. The project is set to be completed by the end of 2024.

To prevent sewage from entering the drain, BBMP officials have established a sewage treatment plant with a capacity of 5 MLD near Kalasipalya. This plant treats sewage before releasing it into the stormwater drain. Additionally, concrete rings have been installed in the drain near Shantinagar, along with the planting of specific vegetation to naturally purify the water. BWSSB is also constructing a sewage treatment plant near Shantinagar, slated for completion by the end of the current year.

BBMP has completed various infrastructure works, such as building retaining walls, ground-level bridges, decorative lighting, landscaping, granite fixtures, pedestrian pathways, and grills. They have also created service roads alongside the drain and installed pipelines to prevent rainwater from entering the drain from these roads.

The project was initiated by BBMP in 2021 with the goal of completely addressing the sewage and environmental issues in the area.It was planned to finish by 2023, but it missed multiple deadlines afterwards.
